To: Youth

"As my experience being a youth, I think that you should always follow your dreams. I have been in jail since I was thirteen and been addicted to crack cocaine there are better things in this world even if you feel alone, never give up and always be strong. No matter what. Someone out there does care! You are your own self!"- youth in a Victoria Youth Detention Centre

FINAL REPORT

In partnership with Surrey Girlz 5 Youth in and of the sex trade created 'kits' for youth on the streets in Surrey BC.  The kits include resources, bus tickets, tips cards, protien bars, self care items and are contained in black leather fanny packs.  Youth then distributed the kits through outreach.  There are still a few kits left, to recive your call 778-240-1055 (must be under tha age of 24)

Youth chose to take photos of our feet so no one would be identified.

Unfortunetly there is still such a stigma associated with participating in the sex trade, that almost all of the youth and adults we work with live in daily fear of being 'caught'.  In a ddition, a number of youth were staying in shelters or acessing services where if they were found out to be involved in or returned to the sex trade, they would no longer be able to acess these services and supports.  While no one wants a youth to become involved in the sex trade or the sexual exploitation trade, the reality is that for many, the sex trade provides an alternative to crime and homelessness.

Youth in and of care also lack the ongoing support that an average young adult will have.  Many young adults can do their laundry at home, go home for visits and sunday dinners and can call for advice in times of need or inexperince.  Our government that takes over the gaurdianship of youth in and of care do not offer any of this basic and ongoing support and mentorship.  As such many youth aging out of  'care' - which happens as young as 16 - turn to and return to the financial and family type support offered through the sex trade.
